BACK ON THE (electric) BIKE ONCE MORE

Nice to be back on the bicycle once more after my "Christmas present" stroke. Albeit, the electric pedal assistance is coming in very handy at present. I bought it to use for head winds and hills but must admit to keeping it on all the time at present, even so I could toddle along at about 12 mph for roughly 70 miles (if my bottom and wrists could take it). As my muscles get stronger, so I hope to use the motor less.

It was a pleasant, sunny afternoon so I took a flask of coffee, with a soupcon of whiskey and trundled out for about 15 miles. This was taken from Bilsington churchyard, overlooking Romney Marsh

It's good for the blood pressure!

This is excellent news, Avus. Great to see you're out and about again.

I've been thinking about electric bikes recently. I live just a bit too far out to consider commuting by conventional bike, but an electric bike might be an option worth serious thought.

Good on you. Can't keep a good man down.....at least for long. Wishing you well.

Dear People:
Thanks for your good wishes and, Pete, I can really recommend e-bikes, they are not just for invalides and the decrepit. They are taking Europe by storm and I believe 40% of Dutch bikes are so equipped these days - ideal for long commutes such as you mention and good for the environment (if you don't count the electricity's original generation)

Head above the hedgerows, taking in the view, breathing in the scent of the countryside. Sigh. Onwards Pa, onwards. The tot of whisky in the coffee flask sounds good too!
Love from Daughter (just off for a walk as the sun comes up).xx

Daughter mine:

Yes the country scents (and smells!) are good to experience again - Queen Anne's Lace in all the verges, drying in the sun after rain, sheep folds with their sweet country smells, farm yards, animals and chickens. Oh, and the whiskey laced coffee was quite a pleasant aroma too!

Good news. That swanky yellow jacket offers a strange effect; the black infill looks as if you have a Garand carbine slung from your shoulder.

In the past I always wore a Greenspot Nomad cycling jacket in navy blue and made of cotton twill (traditionally a pair of plus fours would have complemented it). Eventually I joined the present and got the jacket illustrated. It's just the job for our changeable climate being waterproof but breathable. One can also open long zips under the arm-pits to induce a cooling draught. When it gets really warm it is compact enough to roll up and put in the bike bag.
I draw the line at Lycra over the lower body though - not a pretty sight!

To a man so soaked in nostalgia as to be able to find something good to say about the Austin Cambridge I can't see why you baulk at plus-fours. Le style c'est l'homme, mon cher Avus.
