There's truth in the last line. I stopped watching the news when all this started , and as for the rolling news on Coronavirus Updates I have never switched that on. I check the headlines on the BBC site but thats my lot. Are you managing to get out on your rides, I take cycling as my daily exercise, I dont go as far as I would normally would, but I get out, and ironically the weather has been ideal. I really miss the social side of our cycle club rides, as does everyone. Stay safe and well.
Agreed...I am limiting news viewing and certainly not the rolling update..I get sensible coverage at 6am on Radio Scotland and that's it for me. We are busy gardening and riding our turbotrainers most mornings. Some driving on the local lanes leaves even more to be desired now...I suppose they don't expect to see any other traffic. We have a lane walk out from the village that takes about an hour. Vic was using that on the bike...four laps take an hour!. But the road surface has deteriorated too much now despite it being fairly busy. Stay safe x
Avus, yes I've seen that one before, and the same wording. Maybe consider changing your comments box to only Google A/c holders or moderating the comments before publishing.
Is it a good idea to try to ignore the news? Of course people fib but distinguishing between what they say and the truth is part of being grown-up.
Having said that, for me misinformation has taken another giant step forward in the USA. Antony Fauci is a 79-year-old immunological expert, has been awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, and is presently an advisor to the White House. He's there at Trump's invitation and from time to time corrects Trump's wilder statements. Right-wingers see this as undermining the President and there've been threats. It's a bit like those people who throw stones at paramedics who turn up at accidents.
Horrible as these matters are I'd prefer to be informed about them.
Thanks to you all for your comments (excluding that anonymous rant which I have ground under my heel and destroyed for ever).
I do agree that the general news should not be ignored, rather taken with the usual pinch of salt and not letting the hysteria get to you.
But take proper precautions, all of you and try to keep safe. I went to the supermarket yesterday during "oldies hour" (sounds like a request programme), queued to enter (they are operating one out-one in), wore plastic gloves and washed those gloved hands with anti-bac gel when I returned to the car.
I must try to protect Mrs Avus who has a very low immune system due to the rheumatoid arthritis drugs she takes. The sooner the supermarkets can increase their home delivery systems, with reserved slots for the elderly and vulnerable, the better.
A retired local government Road Safety Officer, I am a widower who had been married for 63 years. My constant companion now is a Jack Russell bitch. I have 3 children (all long since flown the nest),6 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Daughter lives in Western Australia.
