ROMAN HOLIDAY

Off to Hadrian's Wall country for a week with the caravan. Whilst there incorporating an Ermine Street Guard (see: http://www.esg.ndirect.co.uk) re-enactment at the Roman site at Corbridge. The weather forecast (as seems normal up North) is for heavy rain. Oh! that rusty armour and sodden sandals! Have just spent a day cleaning all my Roman kit - shall probably come home and spend the same time getting it up to scratch again. When I was in the British army "brass, blanco and bull" was the bane of our lives - now I do it for a hobby!

I think I can see you there?
I bet Roman soldiers didn't clean their armour all the time!

No - they had more sense! Used to cover it in beeswax whilst on campaign. We are far too shiny and clean (armour and bodily) to have been real Roman soldiers.

All the best. Have to say with all the cleaning, the "Ermine" do look a spectacular site running around in group formation. Hope the weather is good

I see you're off to do soggy battle. Spectacular kit, as you call it. Just wanted to say I've added the Collected Ghost Stories to my reading list. Sounds great, especially as you suggested with red wine and fire and stormy weather.

I know you're gone, but wanted to tell you before I forget that there's a reprinting of a 1977 interview with Burt Munro in the Fall 2006 issue of Antique Motorcycle which I can't wait to read. Wonder if you can pick up a copy where you are, as it is the club magazine for Antique Motorcycle Club of America. Have seen World's Fastest Indian twice so far. HH has seen it 3 times, at least. Hope you are having a blast.

Vita - thanks for visiting. I think you will enjoy the Ghost Stories (especially with a bottle of "red")

Don't think I can get Antique Motorcycle in the UK. But the interview with Burt may be the same one as appears on the Burt Munro website - if so it is a great read. (Just put his name into your search engine)

The "Roman Army" had a great weekend - no rain, wonderful Roman site and great crowds to watch us. (We actors love our audiences!)

Try this link to get the full works on Burt Monroe http://www.indianmotorbikes.com/features/munro/munro.htm

I saw the movie twice on the plane to NZ - there and back and once here in UK. Now have the DVD. Funny and life enhancing!
